VOICE OF DEMOCRACY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Knowing that a democratic society needs nurturing, the VFW established the national Voice of Democracy program in 1947 to provide students grades 9-12 the opportunity to express themselves in regards to democratic ideas and principles.

Each year, more than 45,000 high school students from across the country enter to win a share of the $2.2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the VFW’s Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition.

The national first-place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. Other national scholarships range from $1,000- $16,000 and the first-place winner from each State's VFW Department wins an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Locally, the Moravia VFW selects 2 winners to receive a $500 scholarship. Submissions are due to the Moravia VFW by November 1 each year.

MEMORIAL SERVICES

The Post organizes the annual Memorial Day Parade and hosts veterans for a Veterans Day dinner each year. The Post also places flags at veterans' grave sites around our community.

FUNERAL HONOR DETAIL FOR LOCAL DECEASED VETERANS

Every veteran who served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States of America deserves a proper burial at the venue of his or her choice. This includes the presentation of full military honors, flag folding, rifle salute and the playing of taps. The Moravia VFW provides funeral honor details for local veterans.

9-11 MEMORIAL

The Moravia VFW conducts annual services at the 9-11 Memorial (at the Moravia Middle School) to remember and educate.
